JOHN RUSH
John Rush has been a professional music educator for over twenty five years. He has been employed in the public and private school systems in Riverside, Los Angeles, Santa Clara and Orange Counties, teaching instrumental, vocal and general music classes from kindergarten through twelfth grades. He has also taught private instrumental music lessons since the age of fifteen and is currently the Music Director at El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera, California. John holds a Bachelor of Education in Music degree from California State University Long Beach and a Masters of Arts degree in Education Administration from Concordia University Irvine.
With a background in music performance and a pioneer in music education, he is accredited with the 2015 Jazz Educator of the Year Award from 88.1FM radio station KKJZ and the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at CSULB and received Teacher of the Year in 1998 from the Val Verde Unified School District. John Rush has been a music adjudicator and clinician for Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA) and the Irvine High School and Westlake High School Jazz Festivals.
In addition, he has been a professional drummer for over 40 years and has performed with such artists as Mike Love from the Beach Boys, William Jan Berry from the iconic surf group, Jan and Dean, actor and musician John Stamos, actor and musician Jack Sheldon and many others. John is currently in an all music educator’s latin jazz band called EdCode and is a freelance jazz, blues and rock musician playing in and around the Southern California area.
